About the Innovation Office and X Labs
The Innovation Office (IO) drives BlackRock’s innovation strategy by exploring emerging technologies and accelerating business value through ideation, experimentation, and implementation. X Labs, a core part of the IO, operates globally with labs in Atlanta, Edinburgh, and Gurgaon. The team centralizes innovation efforts, validates business value, and manages the firm’s innovation platform.
Role Overview
We are seeking a technically skilled and innovation driven Innovation Platform Engineer to join our X Labs team in Delaware. This individual contributor role focuses on hands-on engineering, platform development, and technical enablement of innovation initiatives across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance the Innovation Platform, including tools for ideation, hackathons, and sprint management.
- Implement and support technical solutions that enable innovation sprints, rapid prototyping, and MVP development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business opportunities into technical prototypes and scalable solutions.
- Apply design thinking and agile methodologies to support innovation workflows and experimentation.
- Integrate APIs and automation tools to streamline innovation processes.
- Utilize Power BI for reporting and data visualization and develop web interfaces using HTML/CSS to enhance user experience.
- Use Postman for API testing and integration to ensure seamless connectivity and functionality.
- Support the technical infrastructure for hosting and managing ideation events, surveys, and sprint activities.
- Contribute to the development of reusable components, templates, and automation scripts to accelerate delivery.
- Ensure compliance with security, data governance, and infrastructure standards in all technical implementations.
- Provide technical documentation and support for innovation tools and platforms.
Required Experience
- 6+ years of experience in a technology driven role with in Software, IT, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineer, Software Developer or innovation -focused teams.
- Strong experience with DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Bash).
- Experience with agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with design thinking and rapid prototyping methodologies.
- Exposure to data engineering, AI/ML, or enterprise software development.
- Experience working in global, distributed teams and collaborating across time zones.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation and experimentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Certifications in agile methodologies or DevOps practices.
- Experience with innovation platforms or internal developer portals.
