Pre-interview assessment
What is the pre-interview assessment?
- It’s a short video response you’ll complete as part of the application process. After submitting your online application, you’ll receive a link to record your answers. For each question, you'll have three minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to respond. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and must be completed in one sitting within five days of submitting your application.
What is the coding test?
- The coding test is an online assessment required for Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling roles. It includes a series of coding questions followed by one video question. You’ll have five calendar days to complete the coding portion, which typically takes about 60 minutes. The video question must be completed in one sitting.

If I apply to more than one function, will I be required to complete a pre-interview assessment or coding test for each opportunity?
- Yes, you’ll need to complete a separate pre-interview assessment for each function you apply to. If you’re applying to a Software Engineering or Analytics & Modeling function, a coding challenge will also be required for each opportunity.
Can I retake the pre-interview assessment or coding test after submitting it?
- No – once you submit your pre-interview assessment or coding test, it cannot be retaken. Be sure to review your work carefully before submitting to make the most of your opportunity.
What language should I use when completing the pre-interview assessment if I applied for a role in a non-English-speaking country?

If I don’t complete the pre-interview assessment or coding test by the deadline, will BlackRock still consider my application?
- No – your application will be considered incomplete if the pre-interview assessment or coding test is not submitted by the deadline, and it will automatically be withdrawn from consideration. Be sure to complete this step on time to keep your application moving forward.
