How can I learn more about the teams I could possibly join?

Pre-interview assessment and coding test

What is the pre-interview assessment?

  • It’s a short video response you’ll complete as part of the application process. After submitting your online application, you’ll receive a link to record your answers. For each question, you'll have three minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to respond. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and must be completed in one sitting within five days of submitting your application.

What is the coding test?

  • The coding test is an online assessment required for Software Engineering and Analytics & Modelling roles. It includes a series of coding questions followed by one video question. You’ll have five calendar days to complete the coding portion, which typically takes about 60 minutes. The video question must be completed in one sitting.

How can I complete the pre-interview assessment or coding test?

  • Right after you submit your online application, you’ll receive an email with a link to complete the assessment. You can also access the pre-interview assessment or coding test directly through your application portal – making it easy to get started whenever you’re ready.

If I apply to more than one function, will I be required to complete a pre-interview assessment or coding challenge for each opportunity?

  • Yes. If you select more than one function as part of your online application, you must complete the pre-interview assessment or coding challenge (for software engineering only) for each function.

Can I retake the pre-interview assessment or coding test once I have submitted it?

  • No – once you submit your pre-interview assessment or coding test, it cannot be retaken. Be sure to review your work carefully before submitting to make the most of your opportunity.

What language should I use when completing the pre-interview assessment if I apply for a role in a non-English speaking country?

  • If you’re applying for a role where the local language is not English, you must answer the first question in that local language and the remaining questions in English. However, if you’re applying for an investment role in Zurich or any role in Budapest, knowledge of the local language is not required – you should answer all questions in English.

If I don’t complete the pre-interview assessment or coding test by the deadline, will BlackRock still consider my application?

  • No – your application will be considered incomplete if the pre-interview assessment or coding test is not submitted by the deadline, and it will automatically be withdrawn from consideration. Be sure to complete this step on time to keep your application moving forward.

If I miss the deadline for my pre-interview assessment or coding test, can I withdraw my application and submit another?

  • No – if you miss the deadline for the pre-interview assessment or coding test, you cannot reapply for the same opportunity. Make sure to complete your assessment on time to keep your application active.

If I want to be considered for two functions, do I need to submit separate applications?

  • No – you should select both functions within the same programme application. You cannot submit two separate applications in the same year, so make sure you choose your preferred functions when completing your initial application. Please note this does not apply to the Client & Product Programmes – candidates for these programmes can only apply to one business area.

Can I reapply next year if my application has been rejected this year?

  • Yes – we encourage you to reapply next year as long as you continue to meet the eligibility criteria for the programme you’re interested in. Many successful candidates apply more than once, so don’t hesitate to try again.

I'm having technical issues accessing the application portal. Who should I contact?

  • Please reach out to candidate@support.oleeo.com for assistance. Their team will help resolve any technical issues so you can continue your application without delay.

I’ve been asked to provide pre-university education information for my application. What does this mean?

  • This relates to the social mobility questionnaire included in the application form. It applies only to candidates who completed their secondary education in the UK. The questionnaire is optional and does not affect the outcome of your application – it’s used for monitoring purposes only. If you did not complete your secondary education in the UK, simply move on to the next stage of the application form.
