About This Role
Data Strategy & Solutions (DS&S) is accelerating the future of investment research at BlackRock with alternative data, insights, and emerging technology. We're a team of skilled Data Engineers, Content & DataOps Specialists who are dedicated to craft data-driven investment solutions.
DS&S seeks an experienced, high-reaching and passionate Associate to collaborate closely with investment and technology teams to develop and manage data products derived from web-harvested and unstructured sources, drive research efficiency and enable data-driven insights. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and execution of data operations, with a clear trajectory toward leadership.
You should be
- Someone who is passionate about solving sophisticated business problems through data!
- Someone who can build and manage production-grade data pipelines for large-scale unstructured and web-harvested data and is capable of operating data products end-to-end, from raw acquisition through to quality control, delivery, and issue resolution.
- Enthusiastic about establishing and maintaining standard methodologies for data engineering, focusing on data quality, security, and scalability.
- Curious and stays up to date with the latest data management trends and technologies to enhance internal processes and tools Enthusiastic about collaboration with researchers, technologists, and portfolio managers to ensure data products are well-aligned with investment needs.
- Looking forward to contributing to technical roadmap and team development, with an eye toward growing into a leadership role within 2–3 years.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or data product operations
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, especially in Snowflake and BigQuery
- Experience with web scraping frameworks and data governance
- Someone capable of working with unstructured or alternative data sources
- Competence in deploying solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery and Cloud Functions along with experience with Snowflake for data modeling and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of frontend/ backend development (React, APIs, Python Flask or FastAPI, databases, cloud technologies) is a plus
- Skills in ETL/ELT pipeline development and automated workflows
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Expertise in anomaly detection, data drift, or schema changes
- Perspective of treating datasets as products. Lay SLAs, roadmaps, and metrics that can derive change
- Project management experience using Agile, Kanban, or similar methodologies
- Excellent documentation skills for technical specs, runbooks, and SOPs
- Effective communication skills for collaboration between data engineering and business teams
- Leadership readiness, demonstrated through mentoring, roadmap planning, and team coordination.
