BlackRock’s Aladdin Wealth Tech organization (AWT) is at the center of cutting-edge technologies that serve financial advisors and investors. AWT consolidates BlackRock’s varying products, including Advisor Center, Aladdin for Wealth -- with the goal of improving the user experience of its technology products and improving relationships with the financial advisors who use it.
Position Description
The Vice President will join the development team in Mumbai. The Vice Presidentwill be an integral part of the team and take responsibility for leading projects on the Product roadmap for the Business and contribute to the milestones set for the team.
This position requires solid hands-on programming, design, solutioning, creative problem solving, and troubleshooting skills, and ability to lead team and projects and deliver as per product timelines and roadmaps. This role also offers the opportunity to leada team of proficient software developers to continue to build both new multi-tier enterprise systems and enhance existing ones.
Responsibilities
Designing, coding, testing, and supporting reliable, robust software applications and Backend services with high-quality standards and best industry practices.
Be a Subject matter expert for the team and provide technical solutions to the Business requirements.
Role will balance strong engineering output with strong organizational, leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
Manage a small team of engineers to deliver mid-size projects.
Review code for other engineers, ensure that team follows best practices, and processes.
Ability to quickly learn and start development using a new language or framework as per the technology stack to be used in a project.
Lead multi-functional feature requirements gathering, design, and implementation.
Collaborating with Product management on the right units of work to include in each development sprint.
Stakeholder management from partner teams, product managers and users.
Lead and run the process for your team.
Performing code reviews and providing timely feedback to other engineers.
Work in a Global team environmentspreading across several time zones.
Deliver high efficiency, high availability, concurrent and fault tolerant software systems using API-First principles.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Design, develop, and implement secure, scalable, and reliable micro-services to deliver client-facing APIs built on Java technologies, using both REST and gRPC where required.
Optimize performance and reliability through continuous testing, debugging, and refinement.
Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to more junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.
Ideally, you should have…
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
10+ years of professional experience in Java development, with a focus on building client-facing APIs
An interest in setting strategy and direction, backed by real-work experience, ideally in an API-First setting.
Strong communication, presentation (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with direct experience of managing a diverse team of people.
Proficiency in Java programming language (17+ an advantage) and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Hibernate).
A real-world practitioner of OO development, coupled with experience applying standard Design Patterns to your software design.
Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable micro-services using API-First principles using at least one of REST/gRPC.
Motivated to work in a highly professional environment where best-practices and attention to detail are highly valued, and security and stability are built into everything you do.
A desire to work with your colleagues to build the best software you can, move quickly and demonstrate excellence.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices.
Experience with API authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., OAuth, JWT).
Demonstrable experience building modern software using engineering tools such as git, maven, unit testing and integration testing tools, mocking frameworks.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes and cloud services in an enterprise environment is beneficial.
Exposure to Front end development/react Js is beneficial.
Experience in message brokers such as Kafka is a plus.
Experience with API gateway technologies (e.g., Apigee, Kong) is beneficial.
Friendly, positive, and can-do attitude.
Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong object-oriented programming knowledge along with good understanding of algorithms, data structures and design patterns.
Ability to work in a global team-environment.
Financial domain background is a plus.
