Business Unit Overview

Investment and Portfolio Solutions is a global function that provides actionable market insights and portfolio consulting to help clients use BlackRock's full range of products and solutions to build better portfolios. The team sits within the Global Product Solutions, which is responsible for innovating the next wave of products and solutions, and for sharpening focus on how existing products and solutions can help meet the needs of BlackRock’s clients. 

We are looking for a Director to join our team in Tokyo to launch the investment and portfolio solutions function in Japan. The candidate should have experience in a client-facing role and can articulate the dynamics between currency, rates, fixed income and equity markets and how changing market developments could impact clients’ portfolios. This role covers cross-asset strategies, from index to active, and across institutional and wealth clients.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Partner with internal teams to build and execute a business plan and strategy to commercialize investment insights and portfolio solutions. A successful business plan will require a client-centric mindset and an attention to details through consultation with partner teams and leadership teams in APAC and Japan

• Working in partnership with BlackRock's investment and client teams, oversee and create compelling investment strategy content and portfolio analytics across asset classes to drive commercial narratives for Active, iShares and Private Markets strategies

• Strong partnership with global and regional investment strategy and portfolio consulting teams to leverage the expertise of the firm and customize materials for Japanese clients to meet their needs and help achieve BlackRock Japan’s business objectives

• Connect local partners with the best thinking of the firm and collaborate on the local implementation. This includes Product Strategy, Sales, Marketing, and Portfolio Management

• Provide client and market insights to support the product development pipeline, marketing priorities and new strategic solutions

• Work with strategic clients to understand their portfolio and implementation needs and connect with internal teams to provide analyses on portfolio risks/ return assessment, asset allocation and/ or implementation strategies to arrive at the best commercial solutions for the clients

• Drive the commercialization of existing and new product and portfolio solutions covering different investment styles (active/index) and investment objectives through client events and client meetings

Experience:

• 10+ years of relevant industry experience in investment management or similar organization

• Deep understanding of macroeconomic developments and capital markets and how they can impact investment strategies and portfolio outcomes

• Strong presentation and communications skills with previous client-facing experience 

• Fluency in Japanese in a business setting is a must

• Applicable experience as an investor, research professional or client-facing role (investment consulting/sales) preferable

• Strong technical and analytical skills, with a desire to learn and an ability to view the information from the client perspective

• Demonstrated strength in synthesizing complex information and communicating technical concepts effectively to a broad range of audiences

• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize and collaborate in a fast-paced environment

• A cooperative and adaptable approach, thriving in a fast-paced, high-performing team environment
