Job description

About this role

BlackRock is seeking a systematic equity strategist to support business growth in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, based in Singapore.

BlackRock is a leader in systematic investing, managing around $280 billion in assets across systematic equity strategies which span the risk spectrum from low tracking error long only strategies, to full market neutral hedge funds. As one of the pioneers of systematic investing, the Systematic Active Equity team (SAE) at BlackRock brings over 40 years of experience in managing risk-controlled systematic strategies to investors. The team is known for running a flat, collaborative working environment where research especially is a shared responsibility. This is reflected in the low turnover of people we have in the team as people who join tend to enjoy the culture and the ability to learn and contribute.

Role Description

The role we seek to fill is for a junior member of the team to work as a bridge between the investment team and clients, focusing on more technical institutional clients and being able to explain and understand the full range of products of the team, particularly the Hedge Fund suite of products. The candidate will grow into being a self-sufficient part of the team, being able to manage client meetings, answering technical client queries, and driving growth of the business across a vast range of equity-linked products.

The successful candidate will need to have a strong blend of:

  • Interpersonal skills – to regularly interact with sophisticated clients and internal stake-holders.

  • Technical knowledge – to understand, and be able to explain, how systematic strategies are implemented and how they use information from markets and market participants.

  • Technical skills – to quickly access, understand, and analyse data and synthesising the output through python from a variety of databases.

  • Client knowledge – Have, or build, knowledge of institutional clients, how they invest, and what is of importance to them.

Being an effective and reliable partner to the broader team, to internal stakeholders, and to clients, will be a key driver of success in the role. Being technically proficient (either through understanding of markets, our research and investment process, or through python/database knowledge) will be almost equally important.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Regularly create content for clients, whether that is pitch books, market commentaries, or technical analysis on portfolios or drivers of returns.

  • Help plan and prepare for ongoing roadshows across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, liaising with local teams.

  • Answer queries from clients and sales teams on products, markets and competitors.

  • Help keep momentum on opportunities by being on time with information and sticking to deadlines so to build trust with both sales teams and with clients.

  • Liaise with internal teams across sales, product development, client servicing and other investment teams to drive growth of the franchise across Asia and the Middle East.

  • Engage in client conversations and follow up to drive through opportunities.

  • Help drive growth across the institutional space, and across our large Hedge Fund platform.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience required.

  • 2+ years industry experience, investment management knowledge and experience is a plus.

  • Strong written, analytical and presentation abilities with strong attention to detail and to timelines.

  • Experience working with clients across Asia or Middle East beneficial.

  • Fluency in English and another language (Mandarin useful) needed.
