Your team
The Index Fixed Income team is responsible for managing BlackRock’s index fixed income portfolios, including exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, and segregated mandates. The team works closely with colleagues across Fixed Income to ensure portfolios are managed efficiently, consistently, and within a robust risk-control framework.
BlackRock’s Index Fixed Income business is a leading global index investment group, helping investors build better portfolios through a broad suite of index investment tools. The business manages more than $2 trillion in global index fixed income assets across developed and emerging markets. Clients include corporate and public pension plans, central banks, sovereign wealth funds, and retail investors.
The Portfolio Management Architecture team designs and develops portfolio construction algorithms that increase automation and productivity across Index Fixed Income globally. The team partners closely with technology, portfolio management, and trading teams to deliver scalable tools and analytics that enhance investment outcomes and operational efficiency.
Your role and impact
As a Vice President within the Portfolio Management Architecture team, you will combine fixed income portfolio management expertise with strong quantitative and technology capabilities to build solutions that improve portfolio construction and investment processes. You will develop prototypes that deliver immediate value, mature successful solutions into scalable production tools, and collaborate with portfolio managers, traders, and technology partners to drive innovation across the platform.
A key focus of this role is advancing algorithmic portfolio management capabilities that support the continued growth of fixed income exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and other index investment strategies. You will play an important role in shaping the future investment process through automation, analytics, and data-driven decision making.
Your responsibilities
In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:
- Design efficient algorithms and optimization solutions that automate key portfolio construction processes.
- Develop prototypes and production tools that improve portfolio management workflows and support scalable investment processes.
- Partner with portfolio managers to integrate new tools into daily processes and continually refine them based on investment needs and user feedback.
- Undertake portfolio management activities, as appropriate, to deepen your understanding of specific investment processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with BlackRock Technology teams to design and develop the core algorithm platform.
- Develop additional desk tools that support portfolio managers and strengthen the investment process.
- Work with BlackRock Technology teams to ensure existing applications continue to evolve in support of portfolio management needs.
- Develop reporting methods and analytics that measure the effectiveness and impact of new tools and process improvements.
Your experience
- A strong quantitative background demonstrated through a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science, engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in at least two programming languages, such as Python, Visual Basic, R, MATLAB, Java, or C++.
- Experience working as a portfolio manager or partnering closely with portfolio management teams.
- Working knowledge of fixed income markets and familiarity with a range of fund structures and investment styles, including index and active, fundamental and quantitative approaches.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a process-oriented approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex quantitative and technical concepts clearly to portfolio managers, traders, technology partners, and other stakeholders.
