Overview of the Career Returnship Program

Through the Career Returnship Program, we recognize professionals with different backgrounds and experiences bring a unique and valued perspective to BlackRock. The Career Returnship Program is designed to ease the transition for high potential candidates returning to the workforce after an extended career break via a six-month paid returnship starting in Q4 2024. Upon completing the program, successful participants will be offered permanent employment at BlackRock.

Business Overview:

BlackRock’s Global Product Solutions business (GPS) was formed in 2024 with a mission to innovate, curate and commercialize the full breadth of our investment platform to meet our clients’ needs, wherever they are. We do this by innovating the next wave of products and solutions, accelerating iShares adoption, sharpening our focus on active, scaling private markets and our transition businesses, and driving focus on commercial priorities through product prioritization.  

This is an opportunity to join an exciting business at the center of product within BlackRock.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to shape the strategy, design and commercialization of our investment platform, while interacting with teams across GPS and the firm such as product innovation, product development, product segment strategy teams, investment teams, portfolio managers, risk management, sales, marketing, investment strategy, amongst others.

The placement of the Returner is still to be determined and may be influenced by the skillset of the successful candidate. A few examples of the teams across GPS are below:

The Product Development & Innovation team develops a range of products that span broad portfolio building blocks to more sophisticated investment strategies, and they are continually looking for new and innovative ways to give clients access to different types of investments and to help them construct portfolios.

The Index Equity Strategy Business is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with clients and delivering the best of non-ETF vehicles (mutual funds, pooled funds, separately managed accounts). The team coordinates closely with other BlackRock investment and distribution teams to deliver integrated solutions to meet each institutional client’s unique needs while offering investors the industry's broadest array of investment choices.

The Business Strategy team sits at the heart of strategic decision-making within GPS. Partnering with other teams across the broader GPS organization – such as ETF Product and Pricing – Business Strategy helps solve some of GPS’s most challenging issues. With an emphasis on developing critical thinking skills and partnering with the GPS Executive Committee to chart the long-term direction and short-medium-term priorities for the business.

The COO team is responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the GPS business. The activities the team are accountable for are structured across three key pillars - Run: core business management including headcount management, expense discipline and talent strategy Protect: robust governance, risk management and controls Transform: leading strategic cross-functional projects to protect and grow the franchise including new business opportunities and regulatory change implementation.

Potential Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership to identify and develop strategic opportunities to deliver the whole portfolio
  • Develop solutions from start to finish through the development of project plans, collaboration with team members, and execution of final deliverables, including the launch of products and offerings
  • Lead global and regional priorities and partnerships, including prioritizing new insights and mobilizing teams spanning product, investment, and client teams to development products
  • Conduct industry research and assess competitor and client activity to support the evaluation, prioritization and development of new products and solutions across various disruptive trends
  • Show interest/engagement in topics beyond current project priorities: provide insights, views to other projects and become sounding board for senior team members
  • Produce top-quality presentation decks for internal and external presentations, on behalf of senior management

Qualifications

  • A career break of at least 18+ months
  • Prior experience in Investment Management or Financial Services or a fervent passion for the financial markets
  • 4-6+ years of experiencing with driving strategy, business management or project management in a complex environment, preferably in the financial / asset management industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize information, summarize issues and think creatively.
  • Ability to convey key messages with strong attention to detail and written communication skills.
  • Proven record of problem-solving and project management and organization
  • Sense of initiative and passion to drive growth of BlackRock’s businesses.
  • An aggressive spirit that is ready to tackle a full range of tasks and pursue additional responsibility quickly.

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $137,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
