Aladdin Data is the foundation of the Aladdin platform, delivering trusted, scalable, and high‑quality data solutions that power investment decision‑making across BlackRock and its global client base.

About the Product & Role

Our Enterprise Data Catalog is a foundational platform within the Aladdin Data ecosystem, designed to provide a unified, scalable, and intelligent layer for metadata management, data discovery, lineage, and governance across BlackRock. Built on top of the open-source DataHub platform, we are extending and customizing its capabilities to meet the scale, complexity, and regulatory needs of our business.

What you will do

As a Vice President, Aladdin Data Enterprise Data Catalog, you will play a key role in evolving this platform—enhancing core metadata services, extending native DataHub capabilities, and building a seamless, pluggable framework that integrates deeply with BlackRock’s data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot

  • Architect and implement microservices‑based systems supporting high‑volume data processing and analytics workflows

  • Apply Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) principles to model complex financial data domains

  • Lead the design of resilient, secure, and observable distributed systems

  • Develop and optimize data solutions leveraging MSSQL and Snowflake

  • Build event‑driven and asynchronous processing systems where applicable

  • Drive API design standards, including RESTful services, versioning, and contract management

  • Collaborate closely with front‑end, data engineering, and platform teams

  • Contribute to and evaluate open‑source technologies (Datahub)  for enterprise adoption

  • Establish best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, and DevSecOps

  • Mentor engineers and contribute to long‑term technical roadmap planning

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of backend engineering experience with strong hands‑on expertise

  • Deep proficiency in Java (17+) and Spring Boot

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing microservices architectures

  • Design and develop microservices using gRPC and Protocol Buffers.

  • Strong understanding of Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) and clean architecture principles

  • Experience working with MSSQL and Snowflake, including performance tuning and data Modeling

  • Proven experience building RESTful APIs and integrating distributed systems

  • Strong knowledge of concurrency, multithreading, and JVM performance tuning

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks

  • Strong expertise in JUnit 5, Mockito, Test Containers, integration and contract testing, SonarQube, and a TDD mindset to ensure high code quality, reliability,and maintainability.

  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data lineage concepts.

  • Experience working with metadata management tools such as Datahub , Atlan , Collibra.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building large‑scale financial data platforms

  • Exposure to event‑driven architectures (Kafka or similar technologies)

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open‑source projects

  • Exposure to Python.

  • Knowledge of security best practices in distributed systems.

  • Experience with React and JavaScript is a plus.
