About this role

If you are a seasoned Java Engineer passionate about building world-class trading systems, we would love to hear from you! You should be eager to collaborate with a team that values innovation and quality.

In the role of Senior Java Developer at BlackRock's Aladdin core, you will develop the platform supporting our and our clients’ investment and trading. You will invent, build, and support scalable and high-performance applications every day. You will collaborate with trading professionals, product leads, and engineers to specify requirements and provide impactful solutions.

Your role will involve solving technical challenges, optimizing services and data pipelines, and continuously exploring new technologies to improve system performance. Guiding less experienced engineers and contributing to team culture will help maintain the reliability, security, and efficiency of critical trading systems in a dynamic environment.

About the role

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services to support trading operations.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams including traders, product managers, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver solutions.

  • Implement and optimize high-performance APIs, microservices, and data processing pipelines.

  • Ensure guidelines in code quality, testing, deployment, and security.

  • Solve and resolve technical issues across the full stack prioritizing reliability and efficiency.

  • Continuously research and adopt new technologies to improve team productivity and system performance.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a positive, innovative team culture.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum 7 years’ proven experience working as an end-to-end development engineer, preferably in trading, finance, or similarly sophisticated environments.

  • Proven experience with object-oriented programming languages such as Java 17+

  • Solid understanding of Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming concepts and design patterns.

  • Expertise in designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and GraphQL is a plus.

  • Background in handling databases SQL and NoSQL (Cassandra, Ignite).

  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.

  • Strong understanding of software creation process, agile methodologies, and best engineering practices.

  • Deep comprehension of build patterns in an enterprise environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details.

  • Track record building quality software with design-focused and careful testing approaches.

  • Experience taking emotional ownership of the design and development of a significant application, system, or key component. Ability to form positive relationships with partnering teams, sponsors, and user groups in a distributed team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in trading or financial services technology teams.

  • Knowledge of trading protocols, and low-latency systems.

  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools.

  • Experience working with Spring Framework and Spring Boot web services.

  • Experience in modern web frameworks (such as React, Angular).

  • Fostering a collaborative environment and driving projects to successful completion.

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills are crucial to guide team members and support their professional growth.

  • Experience leading and managing a team of engineers.

You will be working on BlackRock's investment operating system called Aladdin. Aladdin is used both internally within BlackRock and externally by many financial institutions. Aladdin combines sophisticated risk analytics with comprehensive portfolio management, trading, and operations tools on a single platform to power informed decision-making and create a connective tissue for thousands of users investing worldwide.

Our hybrid work model
