Job description

About this role

Do you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, experimenting with new approaches, and working in an environment that combines the discipline of an enterprise platform with the curiosity and pace of a startup? At BlackRock, we look for engineers who are excited to push the boundaries of modern frontend development - from advanced UI frameworks to high performance micro frontends and platform level tooling that sits at the heart of investment workflows handling real financial outcomes.

In Aladdin Portfolio Management, you’ll work on systems that operate at global scale and evolve the foundations of our platform. This includes building reliable, performant user experiences, shaping shared frameworks, and increasingly exploring how AI assisted workflows can accelerate how we design, code, and deliver value. We are evolving toward purpose driven, outcome-oriented product engineering, where humans guide and validate AI generated output while taking full responsibility for product, engineering, and business outcomes.

Our technology supports Portfolio Management teams overseeing over $14 trillion in assets, and the products you build will sit at the heart of tools used daily by investors making decisions that impact millions of people worldwide. It’s engineering work with real reach, real complexity, and real impact—where correctness, performance, and resilience directly shape client outcomes.

Why Join Aladdin Engineering?

Aladdin is BlackRock’s investment platform, used across the firm and by many of the world’s largest financial institutions. It combines rich analytics, portfolio management workflows, trading capabilities, and operational tools into a single ecosystem.

As part of Aladdin Engineering, and specifically our Aladdin PM – Target Driven Investing (TDI) efforts, you will help deliver UI intensive, real-time, configuration-driven workflows where the UI is a core system, not a downstream presentation layer.

This role addresses the growing complexity and scale of APAC client deployments, where configuration driven workflows, regional variation, and client specific behaviour must be delivered without fragmenting the platform.

  • Modern UI frameworks used by thousands of users
  • Highly scalable micro frontend architectures
  • Performance critical components powering real-time portfolio decisions
  • Developer tooling that improves reliability, observability, and speed
  • Early experimentation with AI, workflows assisted code generation and testing
  • Evolving standards and best practices for teams across the company
  • We take pride in engineering excellence, in delivering value quickly, and in continuously adapting our processes as new technologies emerge.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own end-to-end accountability for UI intensive, real-time workflows (design → delivery → production), where correctness, performance, and resilience directly impact investment decisions and client outcomes
  • Architect and build business critical, configuration driven frontend systems that scale across clients and use cases without fragmenting the platform
  • Set direction for frontend engineering in APAC: define standards and guardrails, establish quality bars, and evolve shared patterns and tooling
  • Own key frontend architectural decisions and act as the frontend authority for Target Driven Investing in APAC (architecture reviews, critical design choices, and technical tradeoffs)
  • Operate autonomously in ambiguous problem spaces—break down complex problems, align stakeholders, and drive execution to measurable client impact
  • Be accountable for performance, resilience, reliability, and security in production for high impact investment workflows
  • Model responsible AI usage; define guardrails and quality bars for AI assisted code; and coach teams on effective AI adoption (speed gains without compromising correctness, security, or client trust)
  • Partner closely with global/local Product, Design, backend engineers, and client facing stakeholders to translate needs into robust UI systems that ship and scale

What We’re Looking For

  • AI-accelerated, who has experience using AI development tools and Agentic programming.
    • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with ownership of complex UI systems.
    • Strong hands-on expertise‑ in TypeScript, JavaScript, Angular and/or React.
    • Proven experience building UI heavy, real‑-time, ‑data driven applications‑.
    • Strong understanding of front-end architecture, performance, state management, and application security.
    • Significant experience leading large UI and multi-team influence.
    • Experience working with configuration driven or ‑workflow-oriented systems.
    • Observability for front-end, testing strategy and performance metrics.
    • Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into scalable UI solutions.
    • Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-visibility, client-‑driven environments‑.
    • Track record of technical leadership: setting direction, defining standards/guardrails, making architectural decisions, and coaching engineers through delivery.
    • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools productively while retaining engineering judgment and accountability, and willingness to define quality bars and responsible usage patterns for AI assisted development.
  • Curiosity about AI augmented engineering, workflow-driven automation, or practical AI productization.

Nice to Have / Great to Learn Here

  • Experience with micro-frontends architectures
  • Experience building Cypress or Playwright BDD tests
  • Experience with XState for state management and orchestration
  • Exposure to investment, trading, or workflow driven enterprise platforms
  • Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers
  • Interest in defining quality standards and guardrails for AI generated code

If you are passionate about modern front-end engineering and want to help shape the tools that power global Portfolio Management, we would love to hear from you.
