About this role
Fundamental Equities (FE) sits within BlackRock’s Portfolio Management Group (PMG), which encompasses Fundamental and Systematic investing across Fixed Income, Equities and Multi-Asset Strategies.
The FE business is a key division at BlackRock with over $300bn of assets under management, across 100+ strategies and over 200+ investment professionals. FE teams use traditional analytics to pick stocks and assemble coherent, deliberate and diversified portfolios. Through cutting edge technology, sophisticated models and embedded research, our investment management approach provides outstanding performance for our clients and is an important part of the BlackRock brand.
The FE Office of the CIO manages investment, performance, and process enhancements across FE portfolios, and acts as the representative for FE’s investment platform within the organisation and externally. The team in EMEA supports the International CIO with oversight and research related to sustainable investment strategies.
Job Responsibilities
Support the FE Executive, specifically the International CIO, by daily monitoring of sustainable characteristics and metrics as well as risk indicators of portfolios; work with fundamental analysts to review issuer level sustainability criteria both pre- and post-investment.
Partner with the Office of the CIO to provide regulatory oversight of sustainable investments across the FE platform. Become a key member of the FE Sustainable and Transition Investment Committee which enables FE investors to incorporate their insight into sustainable portfolios that meet regulatory requirements. Work with investors, L&C, RQA and other stakeholders to support this process.
Develop subject matter expertise, analytical techniques, and supportive tools and data that enable investors to identify and advise on sustainability issues relating to individual investment ideas and portfolio positioning. Continuously innovate upon FE tools to promote the use of the most advanced and robust technologies, including AI.
Foster a strong understanding of relevant industry/global standards and practices, policy and regulatory developments and advise on the implications for our business.
Work closely with partners across the organization, including fundamental analysts and portfolio managers in FE, BlackRock Active Investment Stewardship, Sustainable and Transition Solutions, and Product Strategy to understand their needs in relation to sustainable and transition investing, and create appropriate solutions and identify early opportunities, risks and / or gaps in the sustainability space for FE.
Skills/Knowledge Development Opportunity:
Develop a strong understanding of fundamental research and analytical processes across FE.
Become proficient in internal tools to analyze and monitor portfolios.
Grow to become a subject matter expert in sustainable regulations and upcoming developments to understand how they might impact our investment processes.
Build industry knowledge of sustainability risks, issues, trends and the developments of key industry players; keep abreast of how sustainability concerns impact the investment management industry.
Develop communication skills and apply these to professional relationships, presenting findings and concepts clearly to the investment team, deliver training and teach-in’s as necessary.
Build a solid understanding and expertise in advanced AI tools, solutions, and processes.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
1-2 years’ experience in financial services with a focus on equity markets and/or sustainable research and investing.
Excellent communication skills across both verbal and written mediums.
Strong project management skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.
Highly motivated, self-starter with an ability to multi-task and prioritize workflow to meet tight deadlines.
Ability to grasp quantitative concepts and their application to portfolio management.
Problem solving mentality with the willingness to speak up to improve process efficiency across tasks, with a particular focus on automation and AI solutions.
Desired technical Competencies:
Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel and ability to develop familiarity and skills using proprietary technology (Explore, Aladdin Compute, AdamX).
Python, SQL and AI (ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot).
Snowflake, Tableau, VBA experience a plus.
