About this role

This role sits within Preqin, a part of BlackRock. Preqin plays a key role in how we are revolutionizing private markets data and technology for clients globally, complementing our existing Aladdin technology platform to deliver investment solutions for the whole portfolio.
This role sits within the Data Service team, a core internal development team responsible for data engineering solutions. We are searching for a forward-thinking, creative individual with experience in our industry, to join our highly skilled team in the Birmingham office

We are looking to appoint a candidate who is comfortable in solving complex problems whilst maintaining a high standard of development. A self-starter mentality, strong team working skills and a passion for continuous improvement are all required to help us meet challenging and dynamic business objectives. Our ideal candidate will be able to competently challenge assumptions, business cases and approaches if there could be a better option.

You will be a proactive and critical thinker who is able to anticipate and prevent challenges before they occur with solid design and careful attention to detail, and commercial enough to understand the purpose of your output. Effective balancing of time and resources will be key, as business as usual priorities need to be met along with more strategic planning for current and future services, maximizing our internal teams and 3rd party resources.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Develop and support SQL Server databases

Perform data wrangling using a variety of tools and techniques

Build scalable and supportable data platforms and support the fast-growing data within the business

Ensure data quality and integrity through well-defined acceptance criteria and testing

Build strong, auditable processes that support the operations of the Database infrastructure

Experience / background:

Proficiency in writing advanced SQL queries and expertise in performance tuning

Database Administration background (SQL Server)

Experience in designing and developing ETL data pipelines (ADF and SSIS)

Experience with the concepts and administration of a Data Warehouse

Data modelling knowledge and a thorough understanding of logical modelling concepts

Solid understanding of data visualization tools (SSRS, Power BI)

Proven experience with .net and source control systems (VSTS) and or other source control system.

Know-how of cloud computing (PaaS and IaaS) in Azure

Experience with the Financial Service industry and eFront FIA software is a definite plus

Experience working with IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms and Databases (On premise and Cloud)

Experience working with elements of Database administration service being outsourced (desirable)

Experience with project management frameworks and delivery (e.g. Prince2, Agile).

Experience with document management solutions and intranets (e.g. SharePoint)
