Web Tech Solutions

The Web Tech Solutions team is responsible for providing a solid software technology platform serving 134 public-facing websites of our company under the blackrock.com and ishares.com domains. These websites serve around 4 million individual visits per month, providing comprehensive data about our investment funds on ~170,000 so-called product pages, enabling roughly 1500 updates of web content and 10000 document uploads daily, as well as providing authentication for more than 600,000 registered users globally.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will:

  • Be the lead data engineer of a project team of 3-5 software engineers working across the Atlanta and Gurgaon (India) offices on the data pipeline that serves client-facing websites and reports with regards to BlackRock’s model portfolio business.

  • Drive the Agile delivery process of the team: planning, implementation, testing, release management, CI/CD

  • Maintain strong collaboration across other locations within the team globally, as well as with other teams, such as Product Managers, Data Analysts, Technical Operations, Release Managers and various business stakeholders

  • Design, code, test, and support reliable, robust product data pipeline software with high-quality standards through the whole Software Development Lifecycle

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data discrepancies by finding the root cause of issues; work with partners across various multi-functional teams to prevent future occurrences

  • Proactively look for opportunities to optimize data loading process and develop innovative approaches to improve onboarding and the integrity of data

  • Stay abreast of new data technologies, drive technical research and Proof of Concept activities when needed

  • Provide basic reporting and respond to inquiries asking for insights about the data sets from senior partners, in a timely fashion

  • Perform code reviews and provide timely feedback to engineers in the team

  • Be a role model and mentor to other developers and contribute to an inclusive team culture

What You'll Need:

  • 2-5 years of lead data engineer experience

  • 8-10 years hands-on experience developing data pipelines and working with data technologies in enterprise software systems

  • B.E. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field of study

  • Strong experience with various data management paradigms such as relational (SQL), big data (like Hadoop and Spark) and NoSQL (for example, Azure Cosmos DB, AWS DynamoDB, Google Firestore, MongoDB, Cassandra)

  • Experience in developing enterprise backend applications and data pipelines in Java or Python

  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, and cloud-native services for building scalable data pipelines and advanced analytics solutions

  • Proficiency in building and passionate about creating great products that solve big problems

  • Strong analytical skills and a passion to understand existing systems

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work optimally under pressure in a rapidly changing environment to meet deadlines, with outstanding time management abilities

  • Experience in working both on long-term projects and iterative development cycles where constant improvement is expected

  • Focused attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy

  • Professional and positive demeanor; strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to clearly articulate and present ideas both in writing and verbally; to senior management as well as outside audiences

  • Expertise working with project managers, technical leads and analysts across the software development lifecycle; understand systems requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and documentation

  • Willingness to work with global project teams spread across several time zones

Nice To Have:

  • Experience building cloud-native applications, for example, with Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP

  • Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems, including technologies such as Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, Azure Event Hubs, and similar platforms for real-time data streaming and asynchronous communication

  • Experience with DevOps principles and technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

  • Experience with web frontend development technologies like Angular or React

  • Prior experience working in a financial services company

For Atlanta, GA Only the salary range for this position is USD$140,000.00 - USD$195,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
