About this role
About BlackRock
Are you interested in building innovative technology that shapes the financial markets? Do you like working at the speed of a startup, and tackling some of the world's most interesting challenges? Do you want to work with, and learn from, hands-on leaders in technology and finance? Look no further!
At BlackRock, we are looking for Software Engineers who like to innovate and solve sophisticated problems. We recognize that strength comes from diversity, and will embrace your outstanding skills, curiosity, and passion while giving you the opportunity to grow technically and as an individual.
As a fiduciary to investors and a leading provider of financial technology, our clients turn to us for the solutions they need when planning for their most important goals! The firm manages approximately $14 trillion in assets on behalf of investors worldwide. Being a technologist at BlackRock means you get the best of both worlds: working for one of the most sophisticated financial companies and being part of a software development team responsible for next generation technology and solutions.
About Team:
Technology & Development Operations (TDO) sits within Platform & Ecosystem Engineering, part of the firm’s Platform Enablement organization. Platform Enablement is a horizontal capability focused on scaling execution, modernizing foundational platforms, and accelerating delivery across Business Operations and Client Services in close partnership with Aladdin Engineering.
TDO operates at the intersection of business process, technology, and delivery. We work directly with operational teams to identify workflow challenges, translate business needs into technical solutions, and build pragmatic tools and automations that improve scale, resilience, and efficiency across core operating platforms.
The role is part of the Technology & Development Operations team, and is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering technical solutions to the organization’s workflow challenges. The role requires a deep understanding of the functions within Business Operations and Client Services to better comprehend the challenges faced by these functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Solution Design & Development
Design, build, and maintain targeted technical solutions to address workflow inefficiencies and scaling challenges.
Develop tools, automations, data-driven utilities, and AI‑enabled solutions that are production‑minded and business‑focused.
Apply sound object‑oriented programming principles and basic software design patterns, with an emphasis on readability, maintainability, and correctness.
Business Analysis & Problem Framing
Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand current‑state processes, identify gaps or risks, and translate needs into clear technical requirements.
Break down ambiguous problems into actionable solution approaches, balancing technical elegance with practical delivery constraints.
Validate that delivered solutions meaningfully address the original business problem and drive measurable benefit.
Delivery & Execution
Own discrete pieces of work from intake through delivery, including scoping, prioritization, testing, and rollout.
Where appropriate, play a project‑management role to ensure dependencies, timelines, and risks are clearly understood.
Platform & Stakeholder Engagement
Work alongside internal technology teams and platform partners to align solutions with broader platform standards and capabilities.
Support adoption by documenting solutions, walking users through changes, and incorporating feedback into iterative improvements.
Help ensure delivered solutions are supportable, resilient, and aligned with risk and operational discipline.
Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
3-6 years of experience in a Developer or Business Analyst role, with exposure to developing and implementing AI-based solutions preferred.
Proficiency and hands-on experience with Python programming language as well as strong SQL and database knowledge, including writing production‑quality scripts, queries, or small applications.
Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and development workflows (e.g., Azure DevOps).
Exposure to Agile methodologies (backlogs, sprints, iterative delivery).
Working knowledge of object‑oriented programming concepts and basic software design principles.
Exposure to cloud platforms or AI‑enabled tooling (e.g., Azure‑based services, automation frameworks, or LLM‑enabled solutions).
Understanding of machine learning models, including large language models (LLMs) and other neural networks.
Interest in the investment management industry and investment products.
Competencies:
The ability to manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within time estimates.
Comfortable operating in ambiguous problem spaces and helping shape both the question and the answer.
Able to switch between developer mindset and business analyst mindset as the situation requires.
Curious about emerging technology and automation, with good judgment about where it adds real value.
Collaborative, accountable, and comfortable working across teams and functions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (in English) to convey sophisticated concepts simply and clearly
