Team Overview:
The Global Alternatives Operations (GAO) group at BlackRock is comprised of functional teams focused on delivering a range of services in support of the investments, the Funds/Managed Accounts and clients. These groups include Fund Controllers, Transaction Management, Valuation, Investor Servicing, Client Reporting, Fund Reporting, Performance Reporting, Asset Servicing, Fee Oversight, and Fund Structuring.
As we have begun the evolution of our private markets business at BlackRock we intend to redefine our current operating platform by analyzing our technology and our business process that support investors gaining exposure to private funds and private investments. The journey to redefine our platform requires both tactical and long term thinking to ensure we can reduce operating risk while creating long term operating scale for our business and the industry. Our goal is to build a sustainable target operating model with our Aladdin platform at our core that will enable the foundation for a top tier private markets franchise that we can commercialize to benefit the industry.
Role Responsibility
As a Director within the GAO team, you will be expected to:
- Collaborate with GAO and Private Markets leadership to improve the operating model for investors in private funds and private investments, incorporating best-in-class processes and innovative technology.
- Work with partners across legacy BlackRock, GIP, and future acquisitions to identify “best of breed” of people, process, and technology and implement tactical and strategic steps toward north star vision
- Leverage industry experience and relationships to understand the direction of travel in the market and stay ahead of trends in private markets operations
- Work closely with Portfolio Management, Operations, and Client Servicing/Reporting teams to develop a robust operating model for the Alternatives platform.
- Serve as the main point of contact for critical technology issues with our business partners.
- Coordinate process re-engineering to identify risk areas, implement scalable solutions, and drive efficiencies.
- Partner with BlackRock technology to define requirements and features that can be leveraged to build scale and efficiency in private markets
- Provide thought leadership and guide the team towards best-in-class operating model
- Engage team members in career development conversations to promote growth and skill improvement.
- Collaborate with external fund administrators to understand their strategy and technological roadmap to ensure convergence of our visions
- Resolve operational issues in collaboration with external service providers, internal team members, and other BlackRock groups.
- Ensure process documentation and controls are regularly updated and reviewed.
Experience
- 15+ years of experience in consulting, portfolio management, operations, fund accounting, or related areas with a focus on private funds and private markets investments. Private markets asset management operations experience at a peer firm is required.
- Technology implementation and process underwriting experience is required and must be demonstrated.
- Proven ability to lead and engage in complex private markets projects in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, technology, or accounting or equivalent experience is required.
- Understanding of systems and data architecture is required and must be demonstrated with examples.
- Familiarity with eFront and/or Investran is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment through organization and adaptability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with demonstrated success in high-performance or high-demand environments.
- Initiative and a willingness to contribute beyond the scope of the role to achieve team and firm objectives.
