About this role

Business Audit

With teams in the US, Europe, and Asia, the Business Audit Team performs audits covering all BlackRock business units, including investment and asset management, risk management, operations, finance, and legal and compliance.

Role Description:

This Vice President will lead our Internal Audit team in Japan and be involved in various aspects of the Audit group’s risk assessment, assurance and advisory activities, including audit planning and execution, and strategic initiatives, with a specific focus on Japan.  Areas of the business within this role's scope will include Client Businesses & Regions, Investment Businesses, Global Product & Investment Institute, Operating Businesses and Corporate Functions.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Project managing and leading the execution of audits (global and regional) in the aforementioned areas. Responsibilities include all aspects of the audit process (e.g. risk assessment; scope determination; test work; reporting). 

  • Coordinating with and advising the global and regional audit teams to help ensure appropriate coverage of local regulations and business process nuances.

  • Engage with local management and other stakeholders to report audit results, and promote best practices and improvement in governance and risk management

  • Ensuring regulator expectations are met as it relates to Internal Audit coverage of the Japan business

  • Engage with regulators and clients as required

  • Identification and assessment of current and emerging risks, themes and trends

  • Assistance in the formation of the annual audit plan through direct input, insight and perspective around current business, industry and regulatory risk factors

  • Advisory services to business stakeholders leveraging industry experience during the development of new businesses and systems

  • People management responsibilities of audit staff

  • Coaching and feedback to staff

  • Performing validations, investigations, special reviews and other ad hoc projects (technical and operational in focus)

Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree is preferred.

  • Professionals with 10+ years of strong and broad exposure to investment management, risk management, operations, finance and compliance in the Asset Management industry

  • Financial services experience is preferable, understanding of asset management products, corporate and risk management business processes, and risk and controls systems

  • Aptitude towards investment and risk management, scenario analysis and problem solving

  • Strong project management, organizational and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of Japan regulations and expectations

  • Fluent in Japanese and English (written and spoken)

  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and listening) and interpersonal skills; strong writing skills

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong quantitative skills

  • Intellectual curiosity and healthy skepticism

  • Commitment and strong work ethic

  • Proficient understanding of current Japanese regulatory expectations and industry practices

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and business partners

  • Preferred Qualifications: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or relevant certification

  • Other Professional certifications such as CFA or CPA (or equivalent) are a plus
