Job description

About this role

What team will you be on?

Finance’s mission is to be a trusted business partner that supports stakeholder value while ensuring high-quality financial reporting, rigorous risk oversight, and effective controls. This role sits within the Japan Finance team and offers an opportunity to build practical experience across two complementary areas of Finance: institutional client billing and Japan Controllers. Working closely with colleagues across Sales, Operations, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and offshore Finance teams, you will develop a broad understanding of how a global Finance function supports the financial integrity and effective management of the Japan business.

Why is your role important?

This is an opportunity for an early-career finance professional to develop practical experience across two complementary areas of Finance: institutional client billing and Japan Controllers.

You will support the end-to-end billing process for Japan institutional clients, including client invoicing, revenue accounting, cash receipt accounting, and accounts receivable monitoring, while partnering closely with Sales, Operations, and Legal teams to maintain an effective billing ecosystem.

At the same time, you will contribute to a broad range of Japan Controllers activities, including corporate accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, financial controls, tax, and treasury activities. Through hands-on experience and collaboration with local and offshore colleagues, you will build a well-rounded foundation across key finance disciplines and develop a deeper understanding of how a global Finance function supports the financial integrity and effective management of the Japan business.

What will you be doing?

  • Prepare and distribute management fee invoices for Japan institutional clients accurately and on time, in line with the relevant Investment Management Agreement (IMA).

  • Support onboarding of client portfolios onto BlackRock systems and maintain billing data used for fee calculations, working closely with Sales, Operations and Legal teams.

  • Account for management fees and revenue from Japan institutional clients in Oracle and support monitoring of accounts receivable and accurate application of cash receipts.

  • Support financial accounting and the preparation of statutory and regulatory reporting in Japan, including monthly regulatory filings.

  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of tax filings, tax payment activities, and treasury-related processes.

  • Support the offshore Accounts Payable team by responding to inquiries from business units, following up on urgent payment requests, and providing Japanese-language assistance as needed.

  • Maintain awareness of industry developments and their potential impact on Separate Management Account billing, financial accounting, regulatory reporting, and tax.

  • Demonstrate the One BlackRock culture through collaboration, partnership, and shared accountability.

  • Apply sound judgment and critical thinking to solve problems, adapt as the business evolves, and embrace the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies.

What are we looking for?

  • Approximately 1–3 years of experience in finance, accounting operations, billing, financial reporting, or a related area. Experience in asset management or financial services is beneficial.

  • A foundational knowledge of accounting principles, gained through academic study, a professional qualification, or relevant work experience.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and adherence to procedures and controls.

  • A team-oriented mindset and a proactive approach to learning, together with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate and work effectively with colleagues across teams and locations.

  • Demonstrated risk awareness and control mindset.

  • Native-level Japanese and business-level English communication skills.

  • Interest in learning about Japanese tax, regulatory reporting, and financial controls; prior exposure is beneficial but not required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies, including AI.
