About this role

The Fundamental Equities team is seeking a Vice President / Director to help execute our business strategy with a focus on Technology Equity strategies. This is a commercial and technical role which operates at the intersection of our equity portfolios and clients. It requires a high degree of intensity, attention to detail, a keen interest in equity investing, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a passion for client service.

Business Unit Overview

Our Product Strategists are a critical component of our commercial and investment success. They are seasoned investment professionals embedded in our portfolio management teams, playing a central role in facilitating connectivity between our investors, distribution teams, and clients. Product strategists represent their respective investment teams to both internal and external clients, acting as a specialized source of product and market knowledge.

Fundamental Equities (FE) is a key division at BlackRock with over $200bn of assets under management and over 240 investment professionals. The Fundamental Equities investment teams use traditional analytics to pick stocks and assemble coherent, deliberate and diversified portfolios.

About this role

We are actively searching for a Product Strategist to work with our Technology Equities team in San Francisco.

The primary responsibility of the role will be to work alongside the portfolio managers, sales teams, other FE Product Strategists, marketing teams, and other stakeholders in promoting and growing the market share of our Technology Equity products globally.

The individual will be responsible for working alongside the portfolio managers and research analysts to create and deliver engaging thought leadership, investment & market commentary on a monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis. In addition, the individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining marketing materials, delivering RFPs for new and existing business, and responding to client queries: providing world class service to our clients and prospects.

The individual will assist on new product launches, seeking out innovative ways to engage our internal partners, guiding the onboarding of new institutional clients, amongst other business-related facets of the role. The individual will develop and maintain a first-class knowledge of our client base, as well as a strong awareness of the competitive position of our Technology Equity franchise relative to its peer group(s).

The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of equity markets, the mutual fund or ETF marketplace, investment management and global economics. They will also have a good understanding of the needs of a wide range of clients including wealth managers, private banks, family offices, pension funds, and official institutions. The candidate must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to form trusted relationships and work across the organization.

The posted salary range is for VP-level candidates only, but we will consider hiring at a more senior level for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver sales narrative for new and existing product offerings.

  • Maintain marketing materials for all strategies and product offerings.

  • Complete RFPs and ad-hoc client requests as well as coordinating and/or participating in updating performance reporting.

  • Write market/investment commentaries for investors, shareholders, current clients and prospects.

  • Represent our capabilities and engage clients, prospects, consultants and intermediaries on BlackRock’s Technology Equities product range.

  • Proactively seek out new avenues of business development.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. MBA, other advanced degree and/or CFA designation preferred.

  • 10 years’ professional experience in asset / wealth management, equity research, equity sales, or a related discipline.

  • Excellent knowledge of equities; an existing specialism in the Technology sector considered a plus.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and articulate financial markets, investment concepts, fund management strategies & equity market performance clearly, and in an engaging and commercial way.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong level of self-direction, ownership, organization and initiative.

  • Collaborative with proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple objectives simultaneously.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and familiarity with market data systems such as Eikon, FactSet, and Morningstar Direct. Ability to quickly develop familiarity and skills using proprietary BlackRock technology.


For San Francisco, CA Only the salary range for this position is USD$137,500.00 - USD$194,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
