The RS team is the engine that serves our global retirement business as the center of lifecycle investing, bringing together expertise in strategy, research, portfolio management and technology and is trusted with $500B in client assets as of December 2023. The Investment Infrastructure team directs the operational ecosystem of MASS Retirement Solutions, emphasizing seamless research implementation, innovative product development, and efficient operational design. The team ensures constant modernization of our investments platform while leading in the design of scaled, risk-controlled innovation in all future business opportunities.
Role Description & Responsibilities
The MASS Retirement Solutions team is looking for a motivated individual to manage the investments operating platform supporting the business. This person will ensure the business’s ability to sustain robust, long-term growth across our global product range and will play a vital role in crafting innovative solutions to the challenges facing our portfolio management, research, and product delivery functions. This individual will help drive the commercialization of our overall product suite, lead large-scale portfolio implementations, set business-level strategy, and influence the firm's broader strategic agenda through cross-functional initiatives.
This position offers an opportunity to partner closely with our internal research, portfolio management, and product strategy teams, as well as with distribution partners, GPS, APG, Tech & Ops, and the broader MASS business. Successful candidates will be self-starting leaders who can effectively balance independent action while ensuring alignment with broader goals, priorities, and team objectives. They must understand and develop clear business strategies while simultaneously excel at leading multi-phase projects with various partners across a global, matrixed business.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading new product launches to advance the commercial objectives of the business
- Partnering with portfolio management and product partners to deploy key research initiatives across the breadth of RS products globally, considering market trading restrictions, jurisdictional regulations, and client requirements
- Building robust oversight controls for core RS investment, change management, and reporting processes with Aladdin partners
- Navigating evolving regulatory frameworks and firmwide governance to ensure adherence with compliance requirements
- Designing new, innovative delivery mechanisms and technology solutions to expand the accessibility of RS IP and products
- Collaborating with technology partners to enhance Aladdin platform capabilities, including the creation of target-date-specific analytics, product marketing materials, and customized portfolio analyses
- Partnering with senior leadership across the firm to raise awareness and build support for critical initiatives and product pipelines
- Presenting strategic recommendations to senior leadership, including project scopes, process designs, implementation plans, and resource requirements
- Establishing priorities and action plans to connect the current investment capabilities to the future-state RS platform
Skills & Qualifications:
- 10+ years of financial services experience, preferably in an investment, technology, or business development role
- 3+ years of BlackRock or Aladdin experience with a focus on portfolio management, portfolio analytics, client servicing, or related roles strongly desired
- Strong fund management and investments background along with working knowledge of capital markets, asset classes, and financial instruments (equities, fixed income, and derivatives)
- Ability to partner at all levels of the organization and cultivate positive connections with team members, managers, partner teams, and senior executives globally
- Adaptable, proactive professional with keen attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
- Strategic and analytical problem solver with the ability to simplify and effectively communicate complex concepts
- Knowledge of Python, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, and/or progress towards CFA, CAIA, CIMA, or CFP is desirable
- Series 7 & 63 and insurance license to be acquired within 6 months of hire
