BlackRock’s Fixed Income team runs more than $1 trillion in global fixed income assets across index, active long-only, alternative, and liability driven strategies. The platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest array of investment choices across model-based and fundamental investment styles.

With over $400 billion in assets under management, the BlackRock Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is seeking a highly motivated Associate to join the BlackRock Financial Institutions Group within the Portfolio Management Group (PMG), supporting portfolio management, trading, client deliverables, and business operations as a developer and application developer.

About the Role

We are hiring a hands-on, developer-first Vice President to join the newly formed Technology Division within the FIG Fixed Income team. This role is designed for an experienced engineer who wants to own and build production-grade technology used directly by investors to drive investment decisions, operational efficiency, and portfolio analytics.

You will operate at the intersection of software engineering and investment management, working side-by-side with portfolio managers, product strategists, and global technology partners. The expectation is not advisory or oversight alone—you will design, build, and scale Python-based applications and data pipelines that solve real, high-impact problems for the FIG business.

A core part of this role is the ability to translate complex investment and operational challenges into robust, maintainable technology solutions, and to see those solutions through from design to production adoption. You will play a key role in establishing engineering standards, development practices, and architectural consistency across FIG.

While formally embedded within FIG, this role also works horizontally with technologists across the Municipal Bond Group and Liability-Driven Investing team to build a single, cohesive technology platform that supports multiple fixed income businesses. Success in this role requires strong technical ownership, a product mindset, and the ability to partner effectively across functions and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and build investor-facing technology

    • Design, build, and maintain scalable, production-grade Python applications, tools, and data pipelines that support investment decision-making, operational workflows, and portfolio analytics.

    • Take solutions from concept through production deployment and adoption, with a focus on reliability, performance, and usability.

  • Drive engineering standards and technical architecture

    • Act as a steward of a well-structured, maintainable Python codebase, applying strong object-oriented design and modular architecture principles.

    • Establish and uphold best practices across version control, CI/CD, and release management using Git and Azure DevOps.

    • Contribute to a consistent architectural approach across FIG technology solutions.

  • Translate business problems into durable technology solutions

    • Partner closely with portfolio managers, product strategists, operations, and global technology teams to translate complex investment and operational challenges into effective software solutions.

    • Own delivery outcomes in a fast-paced, collaborative, and globally distributed environment.

  • Build and integrate data and platform capabilities

    • Develop and maintain data pipelines supporting critical FIG workflows.

    • Design and consume APIs to integrate internal and external data services, ensuring secure and reliable system communication.

    • Work with Aladdin technology teams to enhance and extend Aladdin functionality; exposure to Snowflake is beneficial.

  • Enable and govern citizen development across FIG

    • Partner with citizen developers across FIG to elevate technical capabilities while maintaining appropriate standards, controls, and architectural consistency.

    • Help scale development capacity without compromising code quality or platform integrity.

  • Support insight delivery

    • Contribute to reporting and visualization efforts using Tableau or Power BI where needed to complement application workflows.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong software engineering foundation

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

    • 5+ years of hands-on Python software engineering experience, building production-quality applications.

    • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, modular architecture, and scalable system development.

    • Experience delivering software using modern development practices, including version control, CI/CD, and release management (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).

  • Data, APIs, and systems integration

    • Proficiency with SQL and relational databases, including schema design, optimization, and querying.

    • Experience building and consuming REST APIs using Python frameworks to integrate data and services across systems.

    • Comfort working with data pipelines that support critical operational and analytical workflows.

  • Fixed income domain expertise

    • Deep understanding of fixed income markets and products, particularly structured products such as MBS, CMBS, ABS, or CLOs.

    • Ability to apply domain knowledge when designing technology solutions used directly by investors and portfolio managers.

  • Ownership, execution, and collaboration

    • Demonstrated ability to take end-to-end ownership of complex technical initiatives, from problem definition through production delivery.

    • Proven ability to work effectively with investment, operations, and technology stakeholders across time zones.

    • Strong judgment, communication skills, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical partners.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience building solutions integrated with Aladdin, including use of Aladdin APIs.

  • Hands-on portfolio management experience strongly preferred, particularly rebalancing portfolios, adjusting hedging, and working within complex compliance constraints.

  • Exposure to Snowflake or cloud-native data warehousing platforms.

  • Experience working in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.

  • Familiarity with GenAI or NLP concepts, tools, or LLM-based automation.

  • Experience with Streamlit, Power BI, or Tableau for lightweight interfaces or visualization.

  • Experience in an agile or DevOps-driven environment.

What You’ll Gain

  • A high-impact, developer-first role embedded within a world-class investment team.

  • The opportunity to apply modern software practices in a high-stakes, data-rich domain.

  • Direct interaction with global stakeholders, contributing to investment outcomes and strategic priorities.

  • A dynamic, learning-driven environment at the leading edge of finance and technology.
