Role Overview

The Relationship Manager (RM) plays a pivotal role in expanding BlackRock’s market share among insurers engaged in retail lines of business in the U.S. This individual will lead strategic account management, drive institutional sales efforts, and cultivate deep partnerships across client organizations. The RM must be a dynamic ambassador for BlackRock, capable of identifying and unlocking opportunities across the enterprise to strengthen and grow client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead relationship management and institutional sales efforts with insurance clients and prospects, aligned with the RI business plan.

  • Develop and execute account strategies for RI’s largest and most complex relationships.

  • Drive new business opportunities by partnering with senior colleagues across FIG, Retirement, and other BlackRock teams.

  • Collaborate with client distribution leadership and RI Market Leaders to align sales, marketing, and value-add initiatives with account plans.

  • Engage in strategic conversations with senior client executives to position BlackRock’s full suite of capabilities.

  • Represent RI and BlackRock at client and industry events to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership in the insurance space.

  • Work closely with the Client Experience Management (CEM) team to ensure high-quality servicing and delivery.

  • Coordinate across BlackRock functions to deliver an integrated, One BlackRock experience.

  • Support product commercialization efforts and campaign execution in partnership with internal stakeholders.

  • Maintain detailed pipeline tracking and CRM hygiene to support sales forecasting and reporting.

  • Partner with RI leadership to shape the strategic direction of the business and measure success against defined objectives.

  • Navigate executive-level engagements internally, including collaboration with BlackRock’s Global Executive Committee (GEC) on strategic initiatives.

  • Travel required: 30–50%

Key Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required; CFA, MBA, or CIMA strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in institutional relationship management and business development, preferably within insurance or retirement sectors.

  • Deep understanding of retail insurance company dynamics, product structures, and distribution models.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver complex solutions to clients.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and negotiation skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation abilities, with comfort engaging senior stakeholders.

  • NASD Series 7 and Series 3 required.

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$194,000.00 - USD$270,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
