Job Purpose / Background
Outsourced Platform Services (OPS) provides middle office, accounting, and regulatory data services to clients who have outsourced their operations and/or accounting function to BlackRock. As our business has expanded, we have a requirement for a Chief Operating Officer with strong operations and accounting knowledge to continue to extend our depth.
OPS is seeking a Managing Director to become part of a team that will embrace your skills, eagerness, and passion while giving you the freedom to grow professionally. The OPS COO will work closely with the Global Head of OPS and OPS’ functional leads on strategy, execution, risk management and financial management. The individual will also have significant engagement with partners across the firm including Aladdin Technology, BlackRock Solutions, Risk and Quantitative Analysis, Finance and Technology & Operations as well as clients and key external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough knowledge of BlackRock’s capabilities, products and services for Operations and Investment Accounting clients.
- In collaboration with the OPS Global Head, develop and socialize an outsource platform services vision. This includes working closely with the OPS executive team on strategy, execution, service, and risk management. Ensure our strategy and vision is communicated broadly and monitor progress toward goals.
- Advance Aladdin’s capabilities in post trade and accounting including implementation of new technologies such as digital assets and distributed ledger leading to more commercial opportunities for the platform. Successful measurement of disruption and impact is critical.
- Financial management experience and knowledge is important as OPS advances its strategy, creates efficiency and determines appropriate reallocation of capacity. Measuring operating costs, key risk and process indicators, and other key operating metrics to identify opportunities in our global operating model. Partner with global functional leads to close any gaps.
- Partner closely with GIO to enhance core Aladdin to deliver operational scale, efficiency, and risk management improvements.
- Partner with our clients and their Global Providers, such as custodians, fund administrators and transfer agents to understand their transformation and how it will impact them as a client.
- Understand market practices and regulatory framework, infrastructure changes and identify / deliver opportunities to disrupt and innovate our existing processes and workflow in support of our clients.
- Improve our ability to scale ensuring we can support multiple ongoing efforts concurrently, given our projected sales targets.
- Engage and maintain relationships with key partners across the firm to support business growth, implementation of new clients, and client retention.
- Represent OPS on cross-functional projects and working groups in support of delivering key business and client objectives.
- Conduct periodic business reviews to measure functional operating performance, achievements and upcoming key initiatives; prepare OPS business review submissions for the broader T&O business reviews articulating OPS’ progression against objectives and status of key upcoming initiatives.
About You
- 15+ years of experience in financial services, familiarity with insurance clients a plus.
- Proven track record of driving transformational change within a business operations environment. Expertise in operational workflow, capacity creation and risk management.
- Broad understanding of investment products and markets, including new products such as digital payments and wallets, crypto assets, distributed ledger & blockchain technology.
- Strong intellectual ability and stakeholder management skills evidenced by an ability to establish his/her credibility and influence with senior leaders throughout the firm.
- Superb communication skills – spoken and written and able to clearly articulate ideas to internal and external audiences across levels of seniority and collaborate with cross functional teams.
- Ability to work optimally at all levels of an organization and build positive relationships with team members, managers, and senior executives in multiple offices.
- Drive a strong culture by bringing principles of inclusion and diversity to the team and setting the tone through specific recruiting, management actions and employee engagement.
- A pro-active interest in keeping up to date with industry, accounting standards and client product changes.
- Ability to multi-task and balance multiple requests without losing sight of overall business objectives and delivery requirements.
