Position Overview

This Audit Director supporting Private Markets will be a member of Internal Audit's Global Leadership and is expected to contribute significantly to the strategic planning, process innovation, and project management of assurance and advisory activities across the global team. The scope of this role centers on BlackRock's Private Markets platform — which encompasses approximately $600 billion in AUM across Private Financing Solutions Infrastructure, and Equity Private Markets.

The Director will have primary oversight of audit coverage for this platform, guiding teams to adapt audit methodologies to the expanding scope and complexity of the business. This includes ensuring audit processes reflect the integration of recently acquired entities such as HPS Investment Partners (acquisition completed July 1, 2025, creating a ~$190 billion private credit platform) and Global Infrastructure Partners. The role requires excellent stakeholder management, as the Director will engage with senior executives in Private Markets and related functions, represent Internal Audit in governance forums, and interact with regulators to uphold the highest standards of risk management and control assurance.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of all audits across Private Markets businesses — including Private Credit (direct lending, special situations, real estate debt, leveraged finance) and Infrastructure (energy, renewables, transportation, digital infrastructure, social infrastructure) ensuring rigorous risk assessment, appropriate scope determination, effective test work, and clear reporting.
  • Overall management for the timely execution of concurrent audits and projects, inclusive of control advisory services. Ensure audit workpapers, issue documentation, and reports meet the highest quality standards in line with Internal Audit methodology. Review and finalize audit reports, highlighting key findings and control recommendations to senior management and the Audit Committee.
  • Drive the development of the annual Internal Audit plan for Private Markets by providing expert insight into current business priorities, industry trends, and regulatory risk factors.
  • Complete annual risk assessments of Private Markets business areas, ensuring risk ratings appropriately reflect changes in business complexity, organizational structure, and environment control.
  • Collaborate with Private Markets stakeholders to support integration activities following acquisitions of HPS Investment Partners and Global Infrastructure Partners, ensuring audit processes adapt to the expanded business scope.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and independent assurance partner to senior executives in Private Markets. Foster strong relationships with business leaders across Private Credit and Infrastructure teams, providing valuable risk insights and contributing to key decision-making forums.
  • Collaborate with other corporate risk and control functions (Enterprise Risk, Compliance, Legal & Compliance, RQA Investment Risk) to ensure activities are coordinated and fully leveraged, avoiding duplication of effort.
  • Oversee a team of 10–12 (or more) individuals, providing timely and candid feedback and coaching. Lead talent management including performance reviews, career development plans, and building a high-performing global audit team.
  • Assist in the training and development of a high-performing team. Effectively manage resources to optimize productivity, meet training and development needs, and deliver high-quality, value-added assurance and advisory services.
  • Lead or contribute to global departmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives, bringing Private Markets expertise to drive innovation in audit processes, methodology enhancements, and data analytics integration.
  • Travel to regional and international locations may be required to oversee audit engagements and collaborate with global colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, risk management, or other business-related field preferred.
  • 12+ years of professional experience in internal audit, risk management, or related fields within financial services, with substantial experience auditing or managing risks in Private Markets. This should include a focus on Private Credit (direct lending, special situations, real estate debt) and Infrastructure (energy, transportation, data centers). A track record of progressive leadership roles with increasing responsibility is expected.
  • Familiarity with the operational, fiduciary, and valuation risks unique to Private Credit and Infrastructure investments, including capital management, transaction booking, and investor servicing. Understanding of how private assets are valued — including internal modeling approaches, use of Independent Valuation Agents (IVAs), and governance frameworks for valuations across asset classes — is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex organizational structures and cross-functional teams in global asset management environments, especially during periods of platform expansion and integration.
  • Strong understanding of current regulatory and industry events affecting alternative investments and audit practices. Familiarity with regulatory examination priorities (e.g., SEC examination priorities, FCA Private Markets Valuations Review) as they relate to private asset valuation and oversight is a plus.
  • CFA, CPA/CA, CIA, ACCA, IMC, CRM, or similar professional certification is highly preferred. Candidates not currently certified will be expected to obtain relevant credentials as part of their development.

Skills & Experience

  • Deep understanding of audit methodologies and risk assessment for Private Markets, including Private Credit and Infrastructure.
  • Ability to synthesize market trends (e.g., growth in private credit, infrastructure as a core asset class, wealth channel fundraising expansion) into actionable audit strategies and long-term assurance planning.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening) and interpersonal skills, including strong writing skills particularly as related to audit reports and management presentations. Ability to articulate complex subject matters succinctly to senior leadership, boards, and regulators.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior leaders in Private Markets, investment oversight, and operational risk. Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with senior management and external regulators.
  • Experience managing teams of skilled professionals and developing junior talent. Commitment to coaching audit staff, delivering timely feedback, and building future-ready audit capabilities through cross-disciplinary skill development.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and presentation skills, with the ability to oversee multiple concurrent audits and advisory engagements in a global, fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with an innovative mindset. Intellectual curiosity and healthy skepticism when evaluating business processes and control design.
  • Proficiency in data analysis techniques to enhance audit coverage, identify trends, and support risk-based decision-making.
  • Broad exposure to audit, risk management, operations, finance, and compliance activities, with a strong understanding of investment management, trading, or capital markets businesses, products, and processes.
