Role Summary
BlackRock Index Services (BIS) is responsible for the design, development, and administration of Fixed Income and Multi-Asset indices used by internal and external clients. Our success hinges on producing and supporting pristine data, analytics, and indices that are disseminated timely and accurately to support our clients. BIS relies on high-quality reference data, pricing, analytics, and index methodologies to construct, maintain, and deliver index solutions across a growing suite of investment products.
The BIS Index Operations Team is seeking a Fixed Income Data Specialist who can
Serve as the subject matter expert for fixed income reference data, security master attributes, pricing, ratings, and analytics used throughout the index lifecycle.
Supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of fixed income index methodologies through comprehensive data analysis and governance.
Ensuring critical datasets are accurate, complete, and fit for purpose across index research, construction, rebalancing, and production workflows.
Partnering with Platform Technology, Product Management, and Operations teams to deliver scalable and robust index solutions.
Role Responsibilities
Serve as the primary SME for fixed income reference data and security-level attributes, including terms & conditions, ratings, sector classifications, pricing, duration, spread, yield, and risk analytics.
Perform detailed analysis of large fixed income datasets to support index construction, methodology development, rebalances, and new product launches.
Translate index methodology requirements into business rules and data specifications used for universe construction, screening, eligibility determination, and weighting.
Design and implement data quality controls to assess data health and identify deficiencies across internal and third-party data sources.
Investigate and resolve complex data quality issues by partnering with internal data owners, technology teams, and external vendors.
Conduct root cause analysis of index constituent changes and rebalance outcomes, providing clear explanations of data-driven impacts.
Define and document critical data attributes, business rules, validation frameworks, and governance standards supporting index production.
Support platform modernization initiatives by ensuring data models and datasets can efficiently support current and future index methodologies.
Produce analytical reporting and insights to support business decisions, methodology reviews, vendor management, and senior management reporting.
Project manage data onboarding efforts and index implementation initiatives through coordination with engineering, research, and other partner teams.
Experience and Skills
BS/BA (or equivalent) or higher with preference for Finance, Financial Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Technology, or related disciplines.
8-10 years of experience in asset management, fixed income markets, index management, reference data, market data, or financial analytics.
Deep understanding of fixed income securities, benchmark indices, bond mathematics, yield calculations, duration, spread analytics, and credit risk measures.
Extensive knowledge of fixed income reference data and security master attributes, including terms & conditions, ratings, classifications, pricing, and corporate actions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex datasets and identify root causes of data issues.
SQL experience and basic proficiency with Python, Snowflake, Power BI, Alteryx, or equivalent analytical tools.
Experience working with financial data vendors such as Bloomberg, ICE, Refinitiv, or ratings agencies.
Strong understanding of index construction methodologies, rebalancing processes, and fixed income benchmark management.
Relentless desire to understand how data flows through systems and how data quality impacts index outcomes.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate results.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on client outcomes.
A reputation as a strong communicator who can translate complex fixed income and data concepts into business-friendly explanations.
Experience with the BlackRock Aladdin processes and applications preferred.
