BlackRock is looking to hire a London based, Vice President level, Product Strategist to work with our $26bn Real Estate business, covering UK Core Real Estate Equity capabilities, and the development of Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) and co-investment opportunities.

Vice President, Product Strategy - Real Estate Equity

Product Strategists are seasoned investment professionals that partner with our Portfolio Managers and act as the link between investment teams and our client business.

They play a central role in facilitating connectivity between investors and distribution.  Product Strategists are embedded within investment teams acting as commercial partners to both internal and external clients, acting as a specialised source of product, investment and market knowledge.

This London based role will be responsible for the positioning of BlackRock’s UK Core real estate equity capabilities with clients globally, as well as the execution of a product plan for the growth of the BlackRock UK Core Real Estate Equity Business.

This will include commingled funds as well as exploring new Separately Managed Account (SMA) business opportunities and as well as potential spin-out ideas from BlackRock’s existing Funds and mandates.

The role requires the ability to combine real estate finance knowledge with project management, marketing and sales skills, as well as the ability to drive a project and the ability to work in a team-based environment. 

The successful candidate will work in close co-operation with many of BlackRock’s teams, including the Real Estate Equity Business, Private Markets Capital Formation Team, Global Institutional and Retail Client Relationship Management, Global Consultant Relations, Investor Relations, Finance, Operations and Executive Management of our Real Estate platform.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Product planning: Working closely with senior management, this role will be responsible for developing strategic plans for fundraising with a focus on UK Core Real Estate Equity working in partnership with colleagues in business development related roles to execute this plan.
  • Investment Strategy: Acting as a Proxy PM for the Funds and portfolios in scope; Articulation of portfolio level investment strategy, the market environment, the investment opportunity and the competitive environment. When required, the candidate will act as a proxy for the portfolio manager in meetings with BlackRock’s salesforce, existing and prospective clients, and intermediaries.
  • Product Development: Working in partnership with investment teams and the client business to develop future products and capabilities, including developing demand assessment and partnering with BlackRock’s Global Product Group throughout their project management of a new product from initial concept to launch.
  • Product Marketing: Driving the planning, positioning, and distribution preparation. Developing the marketing and communications to support brand and product development. Tracking and reporting, development and management of client pipelines.
  • Partnership with BlackRock’s various distribution and portfolio management teams on fundraising and marketing execution; preparation and presentation of the investment opportunity to prospective clients, team schedule management, lead response to RFPs and client diligence.
  • Ongoing client mandate & relationship support. Help to solve client investment-related, business and operational issues that arise during the client’s relationship with BlackRock, by serving as the liaison between the investment team and all other areas of BlackRock (compliance, legal, operations, marketing, and sales).

Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in a Real Estate Strategy, Portfolio Management, Distribution or Consulting Role.
  • Numerical aptitude with ability to understand and articulate complex portfolio management concepts effectively.
  • An in-depth understanding of real estate market dynamics.
  • Degree or Master level education with IMC certification.
  • Chartered Surveyor, CFA Charter or MBA preferred.
  • Language skills desirable given scope to engage global clients
  • Strong written / verbal communication skills and a demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and have the willingness to take on additional responsibility.
  • Comfortable operating in a sales-focused environment, with direct distribution experience preferred.
  • Strong experience in stakeholder and relationship management, with proven client servicing capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and mentoring the development of junior talent.
  • Advanced proficiency working in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Dynamics (CRM) and OneDrive.
  • Role is based in London, with minimum 4 days a week office attendance a mandatory component
