The Client Business team is responsible for the strategy and distribution of BlackRock’s products, including open-end funds, alternatives and managed accounts amongst others, working in partnership with institutions and financial intermediaries. We have teams across U.S and Canada, EMEA, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock’s China Offshore Wealth business is looking for a Head of China Offshore Wealth to lead the strategic relationships with investment fund distributors in Hong Kong and China for China offshore wealth.

Primary responsibility will be to lead enterprise engagement with clients and bring all our capabilities to the industry. The role is responsible for driving business development and distribution strategy across China’s major distributors primarly under QDII, QDLP, MRF schemes. This includes maintaining and developing client relations and lead and develop an outstanding sales team; setting strategic direction to deliver on financial budgets and overall goals of the business. This individual is strategic and partners well with clients to identify mutually beneficial opportunities. They will work closely with colleagues in Hong Kong Wealth and AxJ ETF teams. The role also requires the ability to collaborate with multiple teams across product and business groups in APAC, EMEA, and the US to deliver the firm’s capabilities to clients.

The candidate is responsible for sales management of the China Offshore Wealth team and works closely with the product teams to contribute to product development and new product ideas. Success would mean delivering our value proposition, investment capabilities and commercial expertise with clients as well as help their end-investors achieve financial goals and investment objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Greater China Wealth, the successful candidate should have deep knowledge of the China Offshore Wealth segment, banks and distributors in China and Hong Kong. A proficient understanding of investment strategies (Active and/ or passive), investment management, capital markets, sustainable investing and alternative strategies would be helpful. Additionally outstanding interpersonal skills, relationship management and ability to connect effectively across a matrix and sophisticated organization is critical for success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships across wealth distribution segments in China Offshore market, enhancing commercial opportunities
  • Partner with Global Product Strategy team, Marketing team and other corporate functions to formulate client sales & marketing and product development solutions.
  • Coordinate and build positive relationships with the HK Wealth coverage team to ensure seamless collaboration on cross-boundary, regional and global banks coverage
  • Align our client sales teams to industry and market trends and opportunities to ensure BlackRock products and services meet our clients’ needs
  • Work with partners to set sales and marketing budgets, build marketing and PR plans
  • Formulate and implement sales strategy to achieve firm and team’s targets
  • Build a destination team: empower, inspire, and mentor team members and guide sales teams to identify business opportunities and prospects. Develop a talent strategy for the team, helping them achieve objectives and have an exciting career here at BlackRock.
  • Engage with regulatory and industry bodies directly and/or indirectly in connection with the future development and evolution of the local finance industry
  • Take the lead in connecting regional and global partners including representatives from senior management, product groups, portfolio management, research, strategy, and technology with our retail wealth clients. Form collaborative partnerships that will build deeper connections between the market players and BlackRock.
  • Have oversight and have ownership on the operating platform and infrastructure, risk and control governance, and legal and compliance related matters that is relevant to the retail wealth platform and the firm.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 12 + years of proven experience in a similar industry.
  • Outstanding client relationship skills with validated track recording in building and growing a mutual or private fund business.
  • Enterprise leadership with strong financial markets knowledge and can articulate high conviction investment cases and ideas based on current market conditions
  • Solid understanding of the asset management industry especially within the wealth/ retail segment
  • In-depth experience working with clients either through sales or product strategy including mutual fund strategy, index, ETFs, alternatives, and digital solutions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of our client landscape and can engage marketing and PR approaches to improve our brand.
  • Strong presentation skills and have prior experience in public speaking will be an advantage. This role would require you to represent the firm, speaking and presenting at conferences and events from time to time.
