Business Overview
The Africa Wealth Sales team develops and maintains relationships and drives flows across Index, Active and Alternative products and solutions across the African continent. The team works closely with Institutional and BlackRock Solutions (Aladdin) teams to deliver the full breadth of BlackRock capabilities to clients, supporting both Wealth and broader client segments.
Key Responsibilities
This role is based in South Africa, focusing on delivering the full range of BlackRock product capabilities (Index/ETF, Active, Alternatives), as well as solutions (Technology) and Services (Model portfolios, Portfolio construction) to Wealth Management clients across Africa. The role also includes collaboration, where relevant, with Institutional coverage teams to support the broader Africa client franchise including the following:
Set a client-centric strategy to deepen relationships and contribute to the growth of BlackRock’s Africa franchise across Wealth segments.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Wealth clients and partnerships (Platforms, Asset Managers, Boutique Managers, DFMs, Financial Advisors), identifying opportunities for new business and building long-term partnerships.
Drive and execute a clear, segment-specific distribution strategy for Africa Wealth, aligned to regional market dynamics.
Own and develop the Wealth client book across Africa, including client mapping, account planning, and engagement with senior stakeholders (including C-suite).
Demonstrate deep understanding of BlackRock’s full platform (Index, Active, Alternatives, Aladdin) and deliver relevant solutions aligned to client needs.
Partner closely with Institutional and BlackRock Solutions teams to support broader client coverage across Asset Managers, consultants with Wealth distribution capabilities, and other institutions where relevant.
Build, monitor, and take ownership of the regional book of business, ensuring alignment with firm best practices and commercial objectives.
Facilitate strong collaboration across Sales, Product Specialists, and global teams to deliver coordinated client outcomes.
Champion client journey excellence across Sales, Sales Support, and Client Experience Management and other internal stakeholders.
Execute product campaigns through client education sessions, roadshows, and events (both in-person and virtual).
Organize and participate in client events, presentations, and thought leadership initiatives as a speaker and representative of BlackRock.
Identify and pursue strategic partnerships and portfolio solution opportunities to grow existing and new client relationships.
Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity across African markets; adapt sales strategies accordingly.
Contribute to research and insights on the African Wealth landscape to inform product development and positioning.
Increase accessibility and utilization of BlackRock’s thought leadership and investment insights among Africa-based clients.
Maintain oversight of sales pipeline and CRM usage, ensuring data-driven decision making and disciplined sales management.
Ensure all sales activities comply with relevant regulatory, legal, and internal policy requirements.
Provide regular reporting on sales performance, market developments, and client feedback to refine strategy and execution.
Overall, role holder will be responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding BlackRock’s footprint across Africa, and delivering a high-performing, collaborative sales effort across Wealth and broader client segments.
Knowledge / Experience
Minimum of 12–15 years’ experience in financial services distribution, ideally covering African markets
Strong knowledge of African Wealth markets, including Platforms, Asset Managers, DFMs, and Financial Advisory landscapes
Understanding of Institutional client segments (Pensions, Consultants, Sovereigns) is advantageous
Deep understanding of investment products including Index/ETF, Active, Alternatives, and portfolio solutions
Familiarity with BlackRock capabilities including Aladdin and broader technology solutions is beneficial
Proven ability to develop and execute sales strategies and drive measurable commercial outcomes
Strong experience in client relationship management, business development, and sales pipeline execution
Comfortable engaging in portfolio construction discussions with clients
Experience working across multiple geographies and navigating diverse regulatory environments
Strong presentation, communication, and influencing skills
