About this role

Aladdin Sustainability Analytics (ASA) is responsible for building products and capabilities that are needed to quantify the impact of climate risk and other sustainability factors on financial assets. We also partner with Aladdin Engineering to develop the infrastructure and software used for production of analytics as well as delivery of analytics content to portfolio and risk management professionals both within and outside BlackRock. Given the diversity of skills required to develop these products, ASA brings together professionals from research and modeling, analytics, and data engineering teams. As a member of the ASA, you will be working with clients and partners to develop state of the art financial and econometric models to assess the financial impacts of climate change, climate policy and energy policy on many asset classes – from corporate equity and fixed income, to mortgages, municipal bonds, sovereign debt and alternative investments. As climate risk and sustainable investing become an ever-increasing focus for investors, you will be developing the models and analytics to help drive a deeper understanding of risks and opportunities in this space.You will be part of the growing local presence in Budapest, with immediate stakeholders spread across Europe, the US and India.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your expertise you will grow into one or several of the following focus areas:

Portfolio Analytics:

  • Partnering with stakeholders to build models and infrastructure which generate and deliver portfolio climate risk analytics

  • Communicate with internal and external clients on model factors, forecasts, performance, strength and weakness, and risk/valuation implications

  • Back-test, document, and validation of empirical models

  • Work with portfolio management teams on bespoke projects supporting their investment processes; working with financial advisory teams on modeling projects for bespoke products or client portfolios.

Build new applied analytics solutions:

  • Work with modelling, product, and engineering teams to support integration of financial models and outputs to Aladdin platform, including the development and deployment of production pipelines:

  • Develop and implement top down or proxy approaches for various public and private asset classes;

  • Design, develop and deploy analytical tools and approaches to help translate asset level modelling outputs into robust and decision-useful insight to support our clients in embedding climate and sustainability in investment processes;

  • Define and build processes for quality control and maintenance of analytics models to ensure best in class robustness and reliability of analytics output.

Frame investment narratives:

  • Engage with portfolio managers across multi-assets, equities and fixed income as well as BLKs portfolio consulting teams to understand client demands and priorities for climate analytics;

  • Support building narratives around climate analytics catered to specific use cases (such as e.g. the decarbonization of a multi-asset portfolio).

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education with focus on economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or climate science

  • 2-3 years of experience in building financial and econometric models, using statistical techniques such as regression analysis, time series modeling, machine learning etc.

  • Familiarity with modeling techniques used for valuation and quantification of risk associated with financial instruments like Equity, Fixed Income, or derivative asset classes. Familiarity with climate risk will be a plus

  • Prior exposure to Portfolio Construction and Risk Attribution questions. Experience solving these problems in the context of Sustainable Investing a strong plus.

  • Intermediate to advanced programming packages like Python/R 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical personnel:

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed while working on multiple projects

  • Motivated team player, flexible in approach and ability to work independently and effectively across timezones

  • Proactive and responsive with keen attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
