Online Application & Pre-Interview Assessment
Enter basic details and upload your CV. You’ll receive a link from HireVue to complete a short video recording (a pre-interview assessment). This must be completed within five calendar days; applications will not be considered if the virtual cover letter is not completed within the deadline.
Interviews
Participate in virtual interviews with representatives of the function(s) of interest. These conversations will be focused on the BlackRock Principles and may include a group exercise, presentation or case study.

You can apply to one programme (Full-Time Analyst Programme, Summer Internship Programme, Placement Programme, Off-Cycle Programme or Spring Insight Event) and up to two functions within that programme.You must select both functions as part of the same application.
- Can I apply to multiple regions?
You can only apply to one region (Europe, Americas or Asia Pacific). Please note that our events – Women of the Markets, Women in Fintech, Spring Insight and Black Heritage Insight – are only offered in Europe.
- What is the recruiting timeline?
The recruitment process takes place throughout the autumn semester. In some businesses, certain teams may recruit through to the following year. Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis and encourage you to apply as soon as you’re ready.
- When do applications open, and when are they due?
- Pre-interview assessment and coding test
- What is the pre-interview assessment?
The pre-interview assessment is a short video recording that you must submit as part of the application process. You will receive a link to complete your pre-interview assessment after you submit your online application. After a question is posed, you'll have three minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to record your answer. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes. You must complete the pre-interview assessment in a single sitting within five days of submitting your online application.
- What is the coding challenge?
The coding challenge is an online assessment that you must complete as part of the application process for our Software Engineering team. It contains coding questions followed by one video question. You can compete the coding questions over the course of five calendar days, and it should take about 60 minutes to complete. The video question must be completed in one sitting.
- How can I complete the pre-interview assessment or coding test?
Immediately after you submit your application, you’ll receive an email with a link to complete this next step. You can also access the pre-interview assessment or coding challenge via your application portal. Please log into your application portal and click the link that says, “Start Assessment.” This will take you to the platform where you can complete your pre-interview assessment or coding challenge.
- If I apply to more than one role, will I be required to complete a pre-interview assessment or coding challenge for each position?
Yes. If you select more than one function as part of your online application, you will be required to complete the pre-interview assessment or coding challenge (software engineering) for each function.
- Can I retake the pre-interview assessment or coding test once I have submitted it?
No. Unfortunately, you can’t retake the pre-interview assessment or coding challenge once submitted.
- What language should I use when completing the pre-interview assessment if I apply for a role in a non-English speaking country?
If you are applying for a role in which the local language is not English, you are required to answer the first question in that local language and the remaining questions in English. However, if you are applying for roles in our Budapest or Zurich offices, you are not required to speak the local language and should answer all questions in English.
- If I don’t complete the pre-interview assessment or coding test by the deadline, will BlackRock still consider my application?
No, your application is incomplete if you don’t submit your pre-interview assessment or coding challenge by the deadline and will automatically be rejected.
- If I miss the deadline for my pre-interview assessment or coding challenge, can I withdraw my application and submit another?
No, if you don’t complete your pre-interview assessment or coding challenge within the deadline, you can’t reapply. A withdrawn or incomplete application still counts towards your application limit. Please ensure you have the necessary infrastructure (video-enabled device and internet connection) and enough time to complete all steps of the application before submitting.
- I’m having technical issues with my pre-interview assessment or coding test. Who should I contact?

- If I would like to be considered for two functions, do I need to submit separate applications?
No, you should select two functions as part of the same programme application. You will be unable to submit two separate applications in the same year.
- Can I reapply next year if my application has been rejected this year?
Yes, we encourage you to reapply next year, provided you still meet the criteria for the programme you’re considering.

The social mobility questionnaire as part of the application form is applicable for candidates who completed secondary education in the UK. This programme starts at the beginning of August with orientation. After orientation, Analysts join their teams and receive business-specific training and professional development throughout the programme.

This programme takes place between June and August of each year.

The start dates for interns in this programme are dependent on their degree requirements. Typically, placements start in April or June.
- When does the Off-Cycle Internship Programme take place?
