Role Description:

BlackRock is looking to continue its expansion in China with talented individuals who can truly drive the business to the next level.  We are currently looking for an experienced professional with a desire to advance his/her career to take up the role of VP, Quantitative Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager. The position will be based in Shanghai and report to the Head of Quant & MASS at China FMC.

This role is expected to manage investment portfolios according to product guidelines within the firm’s investment policies and to meet client objectives, with a hybrid responsibility of signal research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple products simultaneously from a portfolio management perspective, alone or with teammates. Responsible for the investment outcome together with the team. Handle the market and P&L stress of the book, while remain constructive in work attitude.

  • Follow the markets, macro and policy on a daily basis and place trades whenever necessary and when the investment process requires. Past experience of generating and trading hundreds of orders in a short period of time while remain focused and agile.

  • Frequently present to institutional clients in a convincing manner about market views, portfolio activities and performance attribution, in both Chinese and English.

  • Conduct retail-channel product roadshows in Chinese - heavy travelling required during roadshow times. Ability to generate client pitch materials and update frequently.

  • Report to the head of Quant & MASS team directly while collaborating with relevant teams (investments, trading, RQA, ops, tech, L&C etc.) both locally and across the globe. Ability to lead internal product-driven projects from a PM perspective - which involves and not limited to, checking and writing investment paperwork on products.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Portfolio management - past experience in managing client portfolios with single-name stocks and bonds, cash instruments, minimum 6 years of live-money management experience in a reputable institution. Derivatives and FX experience would be helpful but not necessary. Global markets experience would be a plus. Experience in managing model-based quantitative strategies would be preferred.

  • Understand risk in a quantitative way. Ability to write codes which translate model outputs into security orders. Ability to understand codes - comfortable reading hundreds of lines of codes and make quick changes.

  • Ability to generate quantitative signal ideas and conduct meaningful signal/model research. Ability to communicate clearly and convey complex investment strategies with global teams during the research discussions. Ability to synthesize own work into research papers. Past experience of implementing quant signals from research methodology papers (can be academic papers) required.

  • Self-driven and hard-working, ability to drive multiple work streams from start to finish, while managing live-money products/strategies on a daily basis. Remain focused amid stressful market periods and despite working long hours. Intense and long-distance domestic travelling required, sometimes at short notice.

  • Past experience of managing client money across multiple asset classes essential. Advanced academic degrees preferred but not necessary. CFA, CIPM and other related professional qualifications preferred.
